Her academic career began in October 1976 in the Demographic Laboratory in the Institute of Sociology at the Jagiellonian University, led by Prof. Wanda Czarkowska. In the years 1977-1979 she worked as a technical assistant, and from 1980 to 1987 as an assistant and then senior assistant in the Laboratory. Frysztacki. From December 1995 to March 31 2002 she was employed as an adjunct assistant professor in the mentioned Department. In 2002, she became vice-director of the Institute of Sociology (till 2008). Post-doctoral degree (habilitation) allowed her to realize her dream of continuation of an idea of studies both in sociology and demography, built by Prof. P. Rybicki and Prof. W. Czarkowska. The development of demography within sociology in Cracow was unique on national scale because of its institutional presence (as a department) at the University. In December 2002, the Rector of the Jagiellonian University appointed her as the Head of the Department of Population Studies. The Department carries out important scientific research projects and teaches specialized courses.
